| Outsourced Security Guards working in IDBI Bank, Tamilnadu branches were being denied weekly off. Hence these employees were organised under IDBI Bank Contract Employees Union under the guidance of Tamilnadu Bank Employees Federation and the issue was being pursued by the Union. However, the contractors who were employing these Security Guards, were refusing to extend this statutory benefit to them available under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.Hence IDBI Bank Contract Employees Union raised a dispute under Industrial Disputes Act with Dy. Chief Labour Commissioner, Chennai. The contractors who were claiming Reliever Charges were however not agreeable to extend Weekly Off to these Security Guards and hence there was prolonged conciliation proceedings. IDBI Employees Association and TNBEF extended all help to the IDBI Bank Contract Employees Union.We are happy to inform that due to all these efforts, finally, the Conciliation Officer has ordered and directed that these contract employees – Security Guards are eligible for Weekly Off.
